Lamar leads charge for Pioneer women’s golf over 36 holes at D-III Preview in Florida

West Palm Beach, Fla. – Lexie Lamar led the Transylvania women's golf team on Day One of the D-III Women's National Preview tournament at PGA National Golf Course on Saturday afternoon.

Competing with 12 other national powers at the site of next spring's NCAA National Championships, the Pioneers set foot upon the PGA National Palmer course for two full rounds of play on Saturday followed by one remaining round on Sunday.

After carding an 86 in Saturday's first round, Lamar improved upon her first-round score by five strokes to shoot a nine-over-par 81 to finish the day in a tie for 32nd place on the 70-player leaderboard. Lamar finished her second round with two birdies on the back nine and made birdie or par on seven of her final 10 holes. Lamar carded a two-round total of 167 with Sunday's 18 holes remaining.

Rachel Fine sits in 45th place on the team leaderboard after turning in a two-round score of 172; Fine shot a score of 86 in both rounds. The senior also holed two birdies in her second round.

Grace Chilton carded a 184 for 63rd place after two rounds while Rebecca Fine and Emily Neat rounded out the Pioneer lineup with a 196 and 209 respectively.

The Pioneers will enter the final day of play trailing 12th-place Huntingdon College by 18 strokes.

Transylvania is scheduled to tee off round three on Sunday beginning at 8:30 a.m. Eastern time.
