Rising Sun, Ind. – Lexie Lamar carded a five-over-par 76 in the first round of the Rumble at Rising Star tournament on Sunday afternoon at The Links at Rising Star Casino Resort to lead the Transylvania women's golf team to a third-place standing.
Lamar stands in second place on the 32-player leaderboard at the five-team tournament. Lamar's play paced the Pioneers, who competed against three teams from the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference along with Wittenberg University.
The Pioneers as a whole turned in a team score of 337 to finish the first of two rounds in third place, five strokes behind second-place Hanover College and 22 strokes back of first-place and host team Mount St. Joseph University.
Kelli Harpe turned in an 86 in her first round to check in for a tie of 14th place; Grace Chilton finished one stroke back of Harpe to finish the first day in a three-way tie for 16th place. Rachel Fine carded an 88 to finish with a share of 19th place. Hunter Copley fired a 91 for a share of 22nd place while Rebecca Fine turned in a 91 to finish in a tie for 24th place.
The Pioneers will return to action on Monday for the second and final round of play at Rising Star. The second round is slated for an approximately 9:30 a.m. start.
