LEXINGTON, Ky.—Despite five second half goals, the Transylvania University women's lacrosse team fell to the visiting St. Vincent College Bearcats by a score of 18-7 in Ohio River Lacrosse Conference action.
The Pioneers opened the game in a 2-0 hole after two Bearcat goals in the first five minutes but would respond with two goals of their own. Midfielder Rachel Harrison and attacker Julia Ward scored within 40 seconds of each other to tie the game at 2 with 22:48 left to play in the first half.
St. Vincent went on an extended run to close the half, outscoring Transy 9-0 over the final 20 minutes of the second period, including a score with two seconds left, and the Pioneers went to the locker room trailing 11-2. The Bearcats continued their run with three goals at the start of the second to push their lead to 14-2.
After Harrison added another goal to shrink the deficit to 14-3, St. Vincent scored two unanswered to build their lead even further. Attacker Lucy Meredith got into the scoring column with a man-up goal at the 13:25 mark, followed by goals from Ward and Harrison to cut the score to 16-6. The Bearcats added two late goals and Meredith added a second goal of her own to cap the scoring at 18-7.
The Pioneers, who put 14 of 15 shots on goal, were paced by Harrison's three goals, followed by Ward and Meredith who each had two. Midfielder Iyabo Erinkitola gave Transylvania a boost, scooping up six ground balls while Harrison added 10 draw controls.
Transy (2-5, 1-2 ORLC) returns to action on Thursday in a home game against ORLC opponent Franklin College at 7 p.m.
