Transylvania Women's Soccer falls to Heidelberg in season opener

Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania women's soccer team fell to the Heidelberg University Student Princes by the score of 4-0 in the teams' season-opening matchup at Pat Deacon Stadium on Friday night.

Transylvania's youth was on display early in the game as Head coach Luis Reis fielded a starting lineup that included eight freshmen.

However, the young Pioneers were undaunted as they held their own with the Student Princes throughout the first half.

Neither the Pioneers nor the Student Princes were able to take control of the game offensively and the score remained knotted at 0-0 heading into the halftime break.

Heidelberg jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the second half thanks to a pair of goals that were scored in the span of just two minutes.

The Pioneers were unable to muster a response as the Student Princes added two insurance goals to push the final score to 4-0 in favor of Heidelberg.

Freshman goalkeeper Morgan Patton picked up the loss for Transylvania after replacing senior Ally Barfield in goal in the second half.

Next up for the Pioneers is a matchup with the Alma College Scots on Sunday, September 2. The game is set for an 11:00 a.m. start at Pat Deacon Stadium.
