Lexington, Ky. – Transylvania women's soccer freshman forward Meron Roach was selected to the 2019 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference All-HCAC First Team, headlining a list of five conference award winners from the Transylvania women's soccer team, the conference announced Tuesday.
In addition to Roach's first team honors, sophomore midfielder Abby Baker (Corbin, Ky. / Corbin HS) and sophomore defender Meaghan Curren (Winchester, Ky. / George Rogers Clark HS) were selected to the All-HCAC Second Team.
Sophomore defender Brooke Puterbaugh (Lawrenceburg, Ind. / East Central HS) was chosen as an All-HCAC Honorable Mention, while senior Sloan Cromwell (Lexington, Ky. / Dunbar HS) was named to the HCAC's All-Sportsmanship Team.
Roach, a freshman striker from Lexington, Kentucky (Dunbar HS), started all 18 matches for the Pioneers this season and tied for the team lead with eight goals on the season. Roach finished second on the team in assists with four and points with 22. Roach, an integral cog in the Pioneers' offense throughout the season, led Transylvania with 31 shots on goal this season.
Baker led Transylvania's offense from the midfield this season, tallying a team-high 23 points in just 14 games, a mark that ranks third in the HCAC. The sophomore also tied Roach for the team high in goals with nine this year. Additionally, Baker tallied a pair of game-winning goals for the Pioneers this season.
Curren started 16 games on the Pioneers' defensive line this season, including in all nine conference matchups. The freshman helped anchor a defensive unit that forced four shutouts on the season. In addition to her defensive exploits, Curren also scored her first career goal in Transylvania's 6-0 victory over Berea on September 26.
Under the direction of head coach Patrick Farmer, the Pioneers wrapped up the 2019 season with an overall record of 5-10-3 and 3-4-2 in the HCAC.
