LEXINGTON, Ky.—The Transylvania University men's and women's swimming and diving teams lost to visiting Asbury on Saturday as part of Transy's homecoming weekend, despite an impressive showing from the team.
The men fell by a score of 119-69, while the women lost by 32 points, 118-86. It was both team's first meet of the season.
On the women's side, the Pioneers saw successful meets from Morgan Cyrus, Anna Balassa, Meghan Taylor, Grace Kobitter, and Julia Johnson, who each won their respective events. Additionally, Cyrus, Taylor, Johnson and Kaili Jelinek combined to win the 200-yard medley relay event in convincing fashion, winning by a margin of more than six seconds.
For the men, Transylvania also won the 200-yard medley by a dominating ten seconds. Sam Mullen, Fernando Zarate, EJ Quijano and Cameron Brewer teamed up to win the competition. Quijano also won the individual 100-yard breast stroke to give the men their only individual event win during the meet.
Both the men and women will travel to Centre on Friday, Nov. 7 to continue their seasons.
