Barbourville, Ky. – The Transylvania swimming team ventured to Union (Ky.) College on Friday evening to face off against the Union Bulldogs at the Stiver Aquatic and Wellness Center.
The Transylvania women's swimming team squeezed out a thrilling 110-109 victory against the Bulldogs, while the Union men's swimming team prevailed over the Transylvania men by the score of 189-40.
It was a true team effort which propelled the Transylvania women's side to the one-point victory on Friday evening. Sophomore Sarah Haerle continued her weekly reign in the women's breaststroke races, claiming victories in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.45) and the 200 breaststroke (2:32.57). The sophomore followed up with a second-place finish in the 200 individual medley (2:16.79) to round up a solid trip to Union.
Also making her mark on the evening was sophomore Mattie Fogle, who claimed a trio of second-place finishes for a collection of important points; Fogle racked runner-up showings in the women's 500 freestyle (5:55:34), the 100 freestyle (1:00.75), and the grueling 1000 freestyle (11:48.23).
Senior Kiali Jelinek picked up a pair of crucial second-place showings in the women's 100 butterfly (1:04.14) and the 50 freestyle (27.28).
The Transylvania men's evening was highlighted by a win by freshman Drew Dodds in the men's 200 breaststroke (2:21.15) and a runner-up finish in the men's 200 individual medley (2:06.76).
Transylvania will take the upcoming weekend off for the Thanksgiving holiday before returning home for the premiere event of the year, the two-day Transylvania Invitational at the University of Kentucky's Lancaster Aquatic Center on Saturday and Sunday, December 2 and 3.
