Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania women's and men's swimming and diving teams have each been forecasted for a fourth-place finish in the 2019-2020 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's coaches' preseason polls.
The annual polls, released on Wednesday, slotted the Pioneers men's and women's teams each in fourth place out of six teams in their respective polls. The polls are voted on by each of the conference's six head coaches.
The Transylvania men received 19 voting points to finish one point behind third-place Anderson University. Franklin College topped the men's poll with 35 voting points and five of six first-place votes.
The Transylvania women's swimming and diving squad received 19 points, two points back of third-place Hanover while Franklin College received 36 voting points and all six first-place votes.
The Pioneers are coming off of a pair of fifth-place team finishes at last year's HCAC Championships. Transylvania is led by seniors Sarah Haerle and Mattie Fogle on the women's side; Haerle is the conference's two-time reigning champion in the women's 200-yard breaststroke while Fogle enters a new season as the reigning conference champion in the women's 1650-yard freestyle race.
The Transylvania men are led by junior Drew Dodds, an All-HCAC Second Team selection in 2019, who set the Transylvania program record in the men's 200 breaststroke at the HCAC Championships last season before finishing as the runner-up in the finals.
Transylvania starts its season this weekend when the Pioneers compete at the Kentucky School Invite on Saturday, October 5 in Louisville, Kentucky at 11:00 a.m.
