LEXINGTON, Ky. – In a lengthy, competitive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match, Anderson University edged Transy, 5-4, in Saturday's match at the Bluegrass Racquet Club.
Transy seniors Claire Mielcarek and Megan Dixon gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead with an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles. Anderson took the remaining doubles matches to pull ahead 2-1, as the teams entered singles play.
The Pioneers quickly regained the lead as Mielcarek and Dixon picked up wins in singles play. Mielcarek topped Ashlan Millikan 6-1, 6-1, before Dixon defeated Michaela Hurd 6-4, 6-1 to give the Pioneers a 3-2 lead.
Anderson went on to win three of the final four matches to edge the Pioneers. Transy's Myriah Porter added a 6-3, 6-4 win over Katie Kirkman. Transy travels to Manchester University Saturday for another HCAC match. Saturday's match is scheduled for 10 a.m.
