LEXINGTON, Ky.—Transylvania University's women's tennis team picked up an easy 7-2 victory over the visiting Mount St. Joseph Lions as the Pioneers celebrated the careers of four seniors: Megan Dixon, Claire Mielcarek, Jenna Nidiffer and Jessica Shotwell.
Transy took the first doubles match of the day behind the strong tandem of Mielcarek and Dixon, earning an 8-4 victory. In the next doubles matchup, Nidiffer and Shotwell dropped a tightly contested battle, 8-9. Transylvania took the third doubles match by default.
In singles action, the Pioneers dominated, winning four of the five matches on the day. Mielcarek put the Transy up 3-1 with a 6-1-, 6-1 win. Dixon continued the dominating run for Transylvania and gave them a commanding 4-1 lead after winning her match 6-0, 6-2. After Lillian Williams lost her match, Myriah Porter turned things around, crushing her opponent 8-1. Kearstin Bruther gave Transylvania another decisive victory, 6-3, 6-4, before the Pioneers took the final match by default.
Transylvania moves to 4-3 on the season and 3-3 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic College play heading into their final tune-up before the conference tournament. Transy will travel to Rose-Hulman on Saturday before the conference championship on October 17.
