Defiance, Ohio – The Transylvania women's tennis team moved to 2-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a convincing 9-0 victory over the Defiance College Yellow Jackets at the Dix Tennis Facility on Sunday afternoon.
Sophomores Porsche Robinson and Jessica Burton opened the day with a dominant 8-1 victory in the No. 1 doubles match. Burton went on to complete her remarkable opening weekend with a 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 3 singles matchup. Burton is now 4-0 in HCAC action this season and has only relinquished one game to her opposition.
The Pioneers swept the remaining singles matches, including a compelling 6-1, 6-3 victory by Robinson over Defiance's A.J. Breneman, as well as a 6-0, 6-4 win by Shania Jones at No. 6 singles. The victory by Jones was the first of her Transylvania career.
Transylvania is now 2-0 for the first time since the 2017 season. The red-hot Pioneers have yet to drop a set in conference play, and have won 192 games in comparison to just 22 lost.
The Pioneers will next be in action on Wednesday, September 18 as they travel to Danville, Kentucky for a nonconference matchup with the rival Centre College Colonels. The first serve is set for 4:30 p.m. at the Centre Tennis Courts.
