Carmel, Ind. – Transylvania women's tennis sophomore Jessica Burton has been selected as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Burton, a sophomore from Catlettsburg, Kentucky (Boyd County HS), was a key component of Transylvania's 2-0 start to HCAC conference play this past weekend as the Pioneers rolled past Manchester and Defiance with a pair of 9-0 match wins.

In each match victory, Burton reeled off identical 6-0, 6-0 wins competing from the No. 3 singles position. Burton also paired with fellow sophomore Porsche Robinson to record an 8-0 win against Manchester in No. 1 doubles play on Saturday followed by an 8-1 win in No. 1 doubles play versus Defiance on Sunday.

This is the first conference player of the week award won by Burton in her career and the first earned by a Transylvania women's tennis player for the 2019-20 season.

Burton and the Pioneers return to the court on Wednesday, September 18 when they visit the Centre College Colonels in Danville, Kentucky. Opening serve is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. from the Centre Tennis Courts.
