Transylvania women's tennis moves to 5-0 in HCAC with sweep of Franklin

Lexington, Ky. - The Transylvania women's tennis team claimed a convincing 9-0 victory over the Franklin College Grizzlies at the Transylvania Tennis Courts on Saturday morning.

Transylvania wasted little time in taking control of the match as Porsche Robinson and Jessica Burton cruised to an 8-0 win in the No. 1 doubles match, setting the table for a 5-0 start to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play and a 5-1 overall record.  

The duos of Sheila Cetina and Merrick Irwin, and Alyssa Igyarto and Christina Duvall each claimed 8-3 doubles victories to give the Pioneers a 3-0 match lead.

Following singles victories by Robinson and Cetina, Burton overpowered Franklin's Emma Foley 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles match to put the Pioneers ahead 6-0. 

The most hotly contested matchup of the day was the No. 4 singles match that witnessed Irwin capture a 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) victory over Franklin's Alayna Munson.

Duvall wrapped up the 9-0 Transylvania victory with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win over Chelsie Whorton in the No. 6 singles match.

Up next for Transylvania is a showdown against the Hanover College Panthers on Monday, October 7. The matchup between the Pioneers and the Panthers is set for at 4:30 p.m. at the Zeddies Tennis Center in Hanover, Indiana.
