Louisville, Ky.  – The Transylvania cross country team turned in a record-setting performance at the Greater Louisville Classic held at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park on Saturday morning.

Transylvania head coach Matt Roden was impressed with the way his team performed against a strong field of competitors on Saturday.

"Overall I am very pleased with the outcome of today's race," commented Roden. "Our runners showed they were well-prepared and put forth some great times at the halfway point of the season."

Pacing the way for the Transylvania's men's team was Jacob Burnam, who finished the race in a time of 26:56.8, followed by Mike Kersting, who turned in an impressive time of 28:26.6.

"We had almost the entire team put forth season-best times and even had a pair of program top-10 performances today," reflected Roden. "Jacob led the way and finished just shy of the school record but well ahead of where he was last year at this point. Michael joined Jacob on the all-time top 10 list, and now sits at number eight with a time of 28:26.6."

In the women's race, Transylvania saw strong performances from Kortney Smith who finished the race in a time of 24:44.2, and Josie Cunningham, who turned in a time of 25:00.9.

"This meet will give us the confidence we need to continue pushing ourselves as we look towards the second half of the season," remarked Roden.

The Pioneers will be back in action on Friday, October 18 when they travel to Muncie, Indiana for the Cardinal Classic. The race is set for a 5:30 p.m. start at the Muncie Elks Country Club.
