Box Score LEXINGTON, Ky. - Transylvania scored 22 of the game's first 24 points Saturday and went on to overwhelm Kalamazoo 83-58 in the final game of the Sodexho Classic at the Beck Center.
Transy is 2-1 while the Hornets, who lost both of their games in the Classic are 1-2.
Transy, which lost to Ohio Northern in the first game of the Classic on Friday, took control early with its 22-2 run to open the game. Kalamazoo went up 2-0 in the first 30 seconds, then didn't score again until the 9:58 mark.
Olivia Akridge (Eddyville, Ky.)scored 18 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead Transy. Kennae Demus (Lexington, Ky.) added 14 points and six rebounds while Terra Lucas (Elizabethtown, Ky.)came off the bench to pop in 11 points, hitting three treys in four tries. Holly Milburn (Georgetown, Ky.)was also in double digits with 10 points.
Lauren Rosenthal led Kalamazoo with 12 points.
Transy led by as many as 30 points in the first half and had a 47-19 margin at intermission. At the break, Kalamazoo had 19 points and 18 turnovers, which the Pioneers turned into 20 points.
Akridge was seven of 11 from the field in the first half to lead all scorers with 16 points as the Pioneers hit 56 percent from the field while holding the visitiors to 28 percent.
Charli Fant (Glasgow, Ky.)and Milburn each had six points in the opening period. Rosenthal had nine of the Hornets' 19 first-half points.
Transy increased its margin to as many as 35 points late in the second half. The Pioneers cooled over the final 20 minutes, shooting 40 percent from the field to finish at 48.4 percent. The Hornets canned 13 of 23 second half shots to end up at 41.7 percent for the game.
Transy had a 32-12 edge in points in the paint and finished the game with a 30-8 advantage in points off turnovers. Kalamazoo wound up committing 26 turnovers to just 13 for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers are back in action on Nov. 28 when they host Centre at 2 p.m. at the Beck Center.
