SEWANEE, Tenn. — Transylvania fell 14–6 on the road Saturday afternoon against Sewanee, dropping to 2–2 on the season.
Andrew Welch recorded a hat trick to lead the Pioneers offensively, while Samuel Archer added two goals and one assist. Camble Rosenbaum scored once, and Josh Harney contributed two assists. Charlie Horner added one assist and collected three ground balls.
Transylvania and Sewanee were tied 2–2 after the opening quarter following goals from Welch and Rosenbaum. However, Sewanee controlled the second period, outscoring the Pioneers 6–0 to take an 8–2 lead into halftime. The Tigers extended the advantage to 11–6 through three quarters before adding three more goals in the fourth to close out the game.
The Pioneers generated 31 total shots with 17 on goal, but Sewanee held a 42–31 advantage in attempts and finished with 39 ground balls to Transylvania's 33. Sewanee won 14 of 23 faceoffs and converted 1-of-4 extra-man opportunities, while the Pioneers finished 0-of-4 on EMOs.
Goalkeeper Nick DeGrandi posted 13 saves in 56 minutes of action, with Ethan Kroll adding one save in relief.
Transylvania returns to action on Saturday, February 28th, as they travel to Mount Union.
