MARYVILLE, TENN. — Transylvania moved to 3–0 on the season with a 4–0 win over Maryville on Sunday, using strong pitching and late scoring to close out a dominant weekend.
Nathan Hale started the game with six shutout innings, working around seven hits while stranding runners in every frame.
Logan Cobb earned the win in relief, throwing two scoreless innings, and
Luke Patton handled the ninth to complete the combined shutout.
The game remained scoreless until the eighth inning, when
Seita Shiratori drew a two-out walk, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on another wild pitch to break the deadlock.
Transylvania added three more runs in the ninth.
Max Finn reached on an error to bring home two unearned runs, and
Nick Pietromonaco singled through the left side to make it 4–0.
The Pioneers also collected seven stolen bases, with Pietromonaco, Shiratori,
Calvin Schubert,
Kaden Ford,
Baxter Tedesco,
Trevor Watkins, and Finn each swiping one.
Finn doubled earlier in the game, while Schubert, Pietromonaco,
Ethan Dillon,
Chris Hedinger, Tedesco, and
Brenton Alcorn each added hits.
