John Greer is in his first season as assistant men's soccer coach at Transylvania.

Greer comes to Transylvania from Alma College in Alma, Mich. where he served as assistant men's soccer coach. During his tenure, Alma experience their first winning season since 2000, and recorded their best record in a decade. The Scots led the NCAA DIII in goals per game, recorded the fewest cards in the MIAA conference, and recieved 19 votes for the D3Soccer.com Top 25 poll. 

Prior to his stint at Alma, Greer served as the head soccer coach of the Commonwealth Soccer Club from 2007-12 and assistants girls sosccer coach at Lexington Christian Academy for the 2011-12 season. At the CSC, Greer coached girls' and boys' U10 thru U18 teams, notching several first-winning seasons and finishing in the top three of the league. At LCA, his team recorded a winning season, becoming a district semi-finalist and Division A finalist in 2011.

Coach Greer was a four-year starting defender for Asbury College. In his freshman season, 2006, Asbury won the Mid-East Regional and participated in the NCCAA tournament in Florida. In 2007 Greer helped Asbury win its first KIAC conference championship in school history. Asbury also had a berth in the NAIA Regional during 2007, and was ranked fifth in region XII. Greer was an All Mid-East Region Selection for the NCCAA as well as awarded Asbury’s Most Consistent Player for the 2008 season. He was named captain for the 2009 season, and helped lead them back to the KIAC conference final for the third year in a row – Asbury’s second KIAC conference championship in three years. Asbury missed out on the NAIA tournament by the narrowest of margins falling 2-1 to the 2002 NAIA national champion University of Mobile. Greer was awarded KIAC First Team All Conference his senior year and Offensive Player of the Week in October of 2008.

Greer graduated from Asbury College in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in physical/ health education K-12. He married Casey Jackson in June of 2011.
