Transylvania women’s soccer denied last-minute equalizer in loss against Hanover

Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania women's soccer team were denied a last-minute equalizer in a 1-0 loss against the Hanover College Panthers on Sunday afternoon at Pat Deacon Stadium.

The loss drops the Pioneers to 7-4-1 overall and 2-2 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play while the win moves the Panthers to 9-0-2 overall and 4-0 in HCAC contests.

Both sides were busy from the opening whistle as the battle to control the middle of the pitch ensued. Audrey Rawls produced the first chance for the Pioneers in the ninth minute that was ultimately saved by the Hanover goalkeeper. The Panthers struck first in the 30th minute as a counterattack put Hanover in front at 1-0 going into halftime.

The game reached a dramatic conclusion as the Pioneers had one last chance to find the tying goal. In the 88th minute, Abby Dean collected a cross directly in front of the goal at the six-yard box where her effort was miraculously saved by the Hanover goalkeeper. Emilie Yates followed up the effort with a second shot, but it was once again saved at the near post to secure the 1-0 win for the Panthers.

Morgan Patton had a solid day in goal as the senior earned six saves while facing 15 shots during the match.

The Pioneers will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio to take on the Mount St. Joseph University Lions on Wednesday, October 13th. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Schueler Field.
