Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania women's soccer team was stymied in a 1-0 loss against the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Fightin' Engineers on Saturday afternoon at Pat Deacon Stadium.
The loss drops the Pioneers to 7-5-1 overall and 2-3 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play, while the win boosts Rose-Hulman to 9-2-1 overall and 5-1 in HCAC contests.
As both teams fought to win control of the midfield, Rose-Hulman struck first in the early stages.
Morgan Patton earned a pair of tremendous saves before a third effort was put into the back of the net to make the score 1-0 in favor of the Fightin' Engineers in the 11
th minute.
The Pioneers fought back in the 35
th minute with their best chance of the half;
Rachel Green streaked into the penalty area and beat the Rose-Hulman goalkeeper but was cleared off of the line by the opposing defender at the last second as the Engineers maintained their one-goal advantage.
Transylvania turned into the aggressor in the second half as the home team battled to find the equalizer.

Allison O'Hara forced the Rose-Hulman goalkeeper to make arduous saves in the opening minutes of the half as the tide turned. Though the Pioneers increased their maintenance of possession in the final 45, they could not find the finishing touch to equalize the game as the whistle blew on the 1-0 affair.
Patton shined for the Pioneers by collecting eight saves on the day.
The Pioneers will travel to Richmond, Indiana to take on the Earlham College Quakers on Wednesday, October 20. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. at Darrell Beane Stadium.
