Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania men's tennis team endured a 7-2 loss to the Covenant College Scots at Top Seed Tennis Club on Tuesday afternoon.
With the loss, the Pioneers' record now stands at 2-3 while the Scots improve to 11-4 on the season.
The Pioneers opened the match with a thrilling 8-7 (7-5) victory by the duo of Arjun Gupta and Elijah Skaggs in the No. 1 doubles match. Transylvania extended its match lead to 2-1 when Nick and Noah McNamee earned an 8-7 (7-5) victory at No. 2 doubles.
Undeterred by the early deficit, the Scots came storming back to clinch the match with six straight singles victories.
Jon-Michael Schulte provided the Pioneers with their strongest singles performance of the night, a 3-6, 6-4, 3-6 loss to Covenant's Solomon Crouch in the No. 4 singles match. Skaggs' No. 5 singles match went three sets as well, with the freshman battling to an eventual 6-1, 1-6, 4-6 loss.
The Pioneers will return to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play when they host the Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers on Saturday, April 17. The match between the Pioneers and the Fightin' Engineers is set for 1:00 p.m. at Top Seed Tennis Club.
