Hanover, Ind. - The Transylvania men's tennis team wrapped up regular-season play starting strong against the Hanover College Panthers before fading in singles play with a 6-3 setback to the Hanover College Panthers at the Zeddies Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Pioneers finished the regular season with a record of 4-5 overall and 3-2 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
The Pioneers opened the match with a thrilling 8-7 win by the duo of Arjun Gupta and Elijah Skaggs in the No. 1 doubles matchup while the team of Nick McNamee and Noah McNamee earned an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles.
Leading the match 2-1, Transylvania kicked off singles play with a 6-4, 6-2 win by Gupta in the No. 1 singles matchup.
Despite the early deficit, the Panthers stormed back to win five straight singles matches and secure the 6-3 overall match victory. Two of the Hanover victories came via Transylvania retirements at No. 4 and No. 5 singles.
The Pioneers will be back in action on Friday, May 7, when they open play in the HCAC Tournament at Top Seed Tennis Club.
