Nicholasville, Ky. – The Transylvania women's tennis team has advanced to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship match for the second straight season following an impressive 5-1 victory over the Hanover College Panthers in the tournament semifinals at Top Seed Tennis Club on Saturday afternoon.
The semifinal win for the Pioneers sets up a Sunday morning championship showdown against Rose-Hulman, which defeated Anderson, 5-3 in Saturday's other HCAC semifinal match at Top Seed.
Porsche Robinson and
Jessica Burton opened the day with a dominant 8-0 victory over Hanover's No. 1 doubles team of Isabelle Roberts and Rachel Pinnick. The Transylvania duo of
Grace Gardner and
Alyssa Igyarto added an 8-3 victory in the No. 2 doubles matchup over the team of Maddie Shannon and Melaina Tippery from Hanover.
Erin Biddle and
Christina Duvall put Transylvania on top with a commanding 3-0 lead, courtesty of an 8-4 victory over the Hanover duo of Cassie Froedge and Regin Dean.
The Pioneers kept their momentum surging in singles play as Burton and Gardner collected victories at No. 2 and No. 3 singles to secure the 5-1 match victory for Transylvania.
The Pioneers will now turn their attention to the Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers, who they will match up against tomorrow morning with a ticket to the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Tournament at stake.
The championship match is scheduled for a 10:00 a.m. start at Top Seed Tennis Club.
