Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Rawls records first career multi-goal game, leads Transylvania women’s soccer to shutout win over Asbury

Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania women's soccer team used a brace from Audrey Rawls to power past the Asbury University Eagles, 3-0 on Wednesday night at Pat Deacon Stadium.

The win boosts the Pioneer record to 4-2 on the year while the loss drops the Eagles to 1-4 on the season.

As the rain began to pour onto the pitch, so too did the Pioneer attack as Transylvania controlled the attacking half from the opening whistle. Transylvania created several chances but could not find the breakthrough goal. The Pioneers outshout the Eagles, 11-2 in the half, five of which were on target. Transylvania's best chance came in the 43rd minute as Abbey Rowe whipped in a cross that found Meredith Campbell in front of goal, but the sophomore's shot was denied by the post and the game remained 0-0 at halftime.

The Pioneers came sprinting out of the gate in the second half as Rachel Green chased down a loose ball in the attacking half and laced a long-range shot past the keeper to put Transylvania in front at 1-0 in the 50th minute.

Abby Baker, Emilie Yates, and Rawls flocked into a clinical counterattack in the 54th minute as the cadre bombed down the pitch. Yates found Rawls at the top of the penalty area where she placed a shot into the top corner to double the lead for the Pioneers.

Rawls earned her brace in the 60th minute when Brooke Puterbaugh played her onside with a perfectly-timed pass. Rawls rifled a shot past the goalkeeper and the Pioneers stormed to a 3-0 win.

The Pioneers flexed their offensive prowess by outshooting the Eagles 23-5, with a 13-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Transylvania will look to ride the positive momentum in a fixture against the Emory & Henry College Wasps on Saturday, September 18th. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. at Pat Deacon Stadium.
