Nicholasville, Ky. – The Transylvania women's tennis team turned in another dominant conference victory on Sunday afternoon, clinching an 8-1 match win over the Anderson University Ravens at Top Seed Tennis Club.
Transylvania improved to 2-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play and 2-1 overall with the comprehensive win over the Ravens. Anderson fell to 4-4 overall and picked up its first conference loss of the season to drop to 1-1 in HCAC play.
Porsche Robinson and Jessica Burton led a ferocious charge for the Pioneers as the seniors teamed up for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles and turned in convincing victories at No. 1 and No. 3 singles to cinch up another conference victory.
Robinson emerged victorious over Anna Creech, 6-1, 6-4 in No. 1 singles while Burton prevailed over Madelyn Brown, 6-1, 6-1. Grace Gardner and Katherine Taylor also pitched flawless victories with an 8-0 win in No. 2 doubles, followed by a 6-0, 6-3 win by Gardner in No. 4 singles and a 6-1, 6-4 win by Taylor in No. 5 singles.
Alyssa Igyarto won 6-4, 6-0 in No. 6 singles and also collaborated with Christina Duvall for an 8-3 win in No. 3 doubles to push the Pioneers to a powerful win.
The Pioneers look ahead to their first road match of the season on Wednesday, September 22 at the Hanover College Panthers. The conference match is set for a 4:30 p.m. start in Hanover, Indiana.
