TERRE HAUTE, INDIANA - After a back and forth match against HCAC opponent, the undermanned Pioneers hold on to draw with Rose-Hulman on Saturday.Â
Rose-Hulman's offense began the first 45 minutes with a shot on goal, saved by Pioneer goalie Carrie Stevens. Kyra Hicks, of Rose Hulman found the back of the net in the 12th minute to make it 1-0. This sparked a fire in the Pioneers, with a shot by Abby Dean that was just outside, and a shot by Ellie Held that rattled the woodwork. This led to a corner kick in the 21st minute that resulted in a shot by Isabella White. With three corners in the first, the Pioneers were just inches away from scoring. A red card was assessed to Transylvania's Abby Manning in the 39th minute.Â
Goalie Carrie Stevens made another big save to start the second half to keep the fightin engineers up just one score. The two teams exchanged two corners each around the 50th minute mark. Stevens kept Rose Hulman at bay with another two saves. With a Pioneer corner in the 72nd minute, the shorthanded Pios made the score even once again, with a goal from Abby Dean. The Pioneers continued to apply pressure with a string of three shots just 6 minutes later. The final opportunity came with just 5 minutes left in the match; Pioneer Isabella White put a shot on goal that was saved by Rose Hulman's goalie, Lily Dore.Â
Head Coach Ashley Reinecke stated "Considering the circumstances of the game, I am very proud of the way the team responded to earn the equalizer, as well as create some dangerous attacking chances, while playing a man down." after the match.Â
The Pioneers are looking onward to the next match against HCAC opponent Franklin College Wednesday, October 9th at 7pm. The game will take place at home at Pat Deacon Stadium.Â
