LEXINGTON, KY - The Women's Soccer Team of Transylvania University faced off against the in-state opponent, Centre. The team is coming off of a weekend in Sewanee where they had a draw and a loss.

Under the lights of Pat Deacon Stadium, Transy started the first half with a bang. The Pios strung together passes left and right to create two corners within the first two minutes of the game. The first 20 minutes were back and forth for both teams. The teams were stringing together their offensive attacks and trying to exploit the opponent. Centre struck first with a goal in the 21st minute, scored by Grace Plummer, and assisted by Claire Cavacini. After the Centre goal, Transylvania decided to make a few tactical substitutions, where Centre followed in made subs of their own. Transylvania's defense and goalie, Carrie Stevens, proved to hold their line and continued to fight back. Centre's Riley Givens created a scoring opportunity in the 24th minute, where Stevens made her first save of the night.

To start the second half, Centre did not skip a beat and Claire Cavacini rattled the crossbar from a shot outside of the box. This set the tone for the beginning of the half, where Centre had two corners back to back with a header that went high. Two minutes into the half, Centre tacked on their second goal, scored by Riley Givens and assisted by Grace Plummer. Transylvania's Tara Pund's shot in the 48th minute was inches away from getting a goal back. Six minutes later, Transy made combined passes and created yet another shot for Tara Pund. With just 30 minutes left in the match, Carrie Stevens kept the Colonels from scoring again and made another shot. At the 70th minute mark, Stevens came up clutch from the Pioneers once again by saving four shots on goal in five minutes.

Tactical substitutions continued to occur as the second half progressed. Transylvania's attack was in full force in the final five minutes of the match. In the 86th minute, coming back on from the sideline, combined brilliantly with teammates to create a shot that was high. The following minute, led to a shot on goal by Maddi Benjamin that nearly found the back of the net, but was saved by Centre's keeper. The 88th minute, held yet another shot on goal by Eva Blanke.

Associate Head Coach Ashley Reinecke had this to say post game "We are proud of the work rate and energy of our team.  The intensity never dropped and we competed at a high level for the full 90 minutes.  Unfortunate to concede the two goals, but we will refocus for the upcoming game this weekend against another top opponent."

Transy Women's Soccer team is looking onward to their home match Saturday against Ohio Northern University. The game is scheduled for a 1 pm kick off at Pat Deacon Stadium.
