LEXINGTON, KY - The #19 Pioneers defeated #23 Covenant College to close out the 2024 Transy Invitational Saturday, 3-0.

Cate Sheper would lead Transy with 14 kills, followed by Isabella Myers (12) and Addie Atcher (9). Grace Ward would assist on 40 Pioneer points to lead Transy, Ava Beltsos would contribute 14 digs and two aces. Transy would outperform Covenant in digs, assists, aces and kills.

Transylvania outlasted Covenant in set one with a score of 25-17. Four consecutive kills from Isabella Myers, Addie Atcher, Lilly Kaiser and Megan Sweeney, would give the Pioneers an early 10-5 lead that they would never lose. Cate Scheper's kill would give the Pioneers the first set victory. Set two would nearly replicate the first, with a competitive exchange early on prior to Transy going on a 6-0 run to take a 15-11 lead. Cecilia Roberts would score the final kill to secure the 25-16 set victory. The third set would prove to be the most challenging, with Covenant building an early lead. Back to back kills from Covenant's Scarlett Martz would put the Scots in the lead 16-12. Transy would respond with a run to retake the lead that eventually led to victory. Grace Ward's kill would secure the set victory 25-20, and the 3-0 win for Transy.

Head Coach Amy Barmore was happy to build from Transy's victory earlier in the day over Illinois College.

"After the Illinois College match, we had something to capitalize off of," Barmore said. "We worked hard at defining who we are as a team today and we executed. We hit .352 again as a team and stayed locked in on our game plan. We are excited to get back in the gym this upcoming week to continue redefining our side of the net."

Up next for Transylvania is a match with Centre College on Wednesday, September 11th, at the Clive M. Beck Center at 7 p.m.
