Transylvania Athletics take home 2021-2022 HCAC Women's All-Sports Title

Carmel, Ind. – Transylvania University has received the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) 2021-2022 Women's All-Sports Title, announced by the conference on Friday. Throughout the academic year, Transy women's athletics have excelled with numerous top finishes in the conference, garnering a total of 77.845 points which is best in the league.

With regular season titles coming from the women's teams of tennis, basketball, lacrosse, and softball, Transylvania also had regular season runner up finishes from golf, volleyball, and swimming and diving. Also contributing points with commendable seasons were the field hockey, cross country, soccer, and track and field teams.

The women's basketball team captured their fourth consecutive conference title in February, going a perfect 13-0 in HCAC play. Head coach Juli Fulks was named Coach of the Year, with Madison Kellione and Kennedi Stacy being named to the First Team All-Conference. It was a historic season for the team, with an unforgettable March run culminating in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.

The women's tennis team again led the charge in the HCAC, going undefeated in conference action and claiming their third straight HCAC title. Members of the team won HCAC Player of the Week awards 7 times, along with Bill Carey earning Coach of the Year and Porsche Robinson named as the Player of the Year for the second straight season.

The women's lacrosse team won their fourth straight HCLC championship after outscoring conference opponents by a total of 97-13 and going undefeated in league play. Abbey Peterson was named Offensive Player of the Year, Diana Bruder was the Newcomer of the Year, and Rachael Bragg was the 2022 Coach of the Year. Madie Denman, Charlotte Green, Abby Rau, and Mandi Rider also took home First-Team All-Conference honors.

Another conference championship came courtesy of the volleyball team with their third straight HCAC crown. After going 7-2 in the HCAC, the Pioneers defeated No. 1 seeded Earlham for the title. Cate Scheper was the Newcomer of the Year with Karrington Jackson and Madison Sweeney taking First Team honors.

The softball team earned a regular season title after another strong spring with numerous accolades. Stella Wulker was named Player of the Year, and Carlee Jeter earned Pitcher of the Year honors. Taylor Senter, Annie Schuck, and Abby Frazier were also named to the HCAC First Team.

The women's swimming and diving team took runner-up in the championships back in February, with sophomore Mackie Redford repeating as champion in the 3-meter dive, earning a school record 435.25 points. Redford also claimed two Athlete of the Week honors last fall, along with Olivia Greinke taking one.

The women's golf team also took second last fall, marking their fourth top-2 finish at the HCAC Championships in the past five years. The team had four Athlete of the Week awards this year, coming from Emma Spencer (2), June Lee, and Grace Chilton.

The women's soccer team finished fourth in the HCAC standings, as Abby Baker was named First Team, with Abby Dean, Morgan Fowler, and Emilie Yates taking Second Team honors. Morgan Patton earned Athlete of the Week three times last season, and the team swept both offensive and defensive Athlete of the Week awards twice.

The women's track and field teams showed improvement all spring to ascend up the HCAC ranks. Taylor Allen added to her distinguished career with two more individual titles in the 400m dash and 400m hurdles at the HCAC Championships. Maya Jazdzewski also had an outstanding season, in the indoor circuit, including a win in the triple jump back in February.

Last fall the field hockey team returned took to the turf to compete, and earned two Player of the Week awards, with one from Mirabel Noltemeyer. Selected to the conference First Team was Makenna Saward, along with Libby Bringard earning Second Team honors.

Rounding out the group at Transylvania, the women's cross-country team were led by senior Maddie Bell last fall with a young group. Sophomores Delaney McPherson and Toren Hartog each had top 50 finishes in the HCAC Championship 6K race, and the team will look to showcase more growth and improvement next season.

With an excellent year now in the books, the teams can now look back on the many memories and accomplishments of their respective seasons and come back for 2022-2023 with even more in the works. For these women's teams, the 2021-2022 year will go down as one full of both individual and team prestige.
