LEXINGTON, KY - Transylvania's defense stopped a final shot attempt from Berry to earn their first victory of the season, 70-68.

Transylvania made an impact in the opening seconds of the game, as Hunter Barr dunked on the opening play, followed up by a steal and fast break lay up for Dakota Capps. Ian Reesor connected on a three-point field goal after Berry's opening basket, as the Pioneers took an early 7-2 lead. After exchanging runs throughout the first half, the Pioneers connected on another three-pointer from Capps with just over six minutes remaining in the half, but Berry responded with a three of their own. Capps scored on a drive to the basket on the next trip down the floor, giving Transylvania the tie at 27-27.

Nile King scored in the final seconds for Berry, giving Transylvania a five point deficit at the halftime break. Drew Marshall opened the second half with a three-pointer, followed by a basket in the post for Hunter Barr and a three-pointer from Ian Reesor on the following possessions, tying Berry at 41-41. With 04:29 remaining, Drew Marshall connected on a basket in the post to give the Pioneers a four point lead at 68-64. After two free throws pulled Berry to within two points, Marshall scored on a tip-in to retake the four point lead. Berry would score from the free-throw line again to pull within two, and after the Pioneers were unable to score on their final possession, their defense would hold off on a final three-point attempt to hold on for a 70-68 victory.

Drew Marshall led the Pioneers with 22 points and seven rebounds, followed by 13 points and six rebounds from Hunter Barr. Dakota Capps scored 12 points and six assists to round out the top scorers for Transylvania.

Transylvania (1-1) returns to action on Saturday, November 22nd, traveling to Mount Union.
