RICHMOND, INDIANA - Transylvania earned its first conference victory of the season on Tuesday night, defeating Earlham 86-70 behind five double-figure scorers and a dominant second-half defensive effort at Druley Performance Gym.
The Pioneers and Quakers traded early leads, but Transy closed the first half with back-to-back threes from
Luke Idlett and
Cayden Lancaster to take a 45-43 advantage into the break.
Transylvania created separation midway through the second half with a 14-3 run, highlighted by a
Hunter Barr alley-oop finish and a three-pointer from Idlett to push the lead to double digits. Barr connected from beyond the arc again with 4:46 remaining, and a
Jaxon Smith triple minutes later helped secure the Pioneers' largest lead of the night.
Hunter Barr led Transylvania with 17 points, eight rebounds, and two steals, while
Luke Idlett added 16 points and two steals off the bench.
Drew Marshall posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and
Ian Reesor finished with 12 points.
Jaxon Smith rounded out the double-figure scorers with 12 points and four assists.
As a team, the Pioneers knocked down 14 three-pointers and shot 77 percent from the free-throw line.
The win moves Transylvania to 1-3 on the season and 1-0 in HCAC play. The Pioneers return to action this weekend, hosting Mount St. Joseph University on Saturday at the Beck Center.
