LEXINGTON, Ky. - Transylvania's Sarah Zembrodt (Edgewood, Ky.)snapped a scoreless tie on a penalty kick in the 58th minute Wednesday, lifting the Pioneers to a 1-0 win over Hanover in women's soccer action at Hall Field.
Transy is 11-3-1 on the season, 5-1 in HCAC play, while the Panthers are 8-6-1, 4-2 HCAC. The Pioneers and Panthers came into the contest as one of four teams with one conference loss. Earlham and Mt. St. Joseph are also 5-1 while Hanover falls a game off the pace with three league games remaining.
Zembrodt's score came after Hanover was called for a hand ball in the box at the 57:45 mark. She beat the keeper with a shot to the lower left. It was the second goal of the year for the senior.
Hanover out-shot Transy in the hard-fought contest 8-5 and had five shots on goal to just two for the Pioneers. Hanover trailed in corner opportunities, however, by a 6-1 margin.
Transy's Kara Hansel (Florence, Ky.) got the win in goal. She had five saves.
Transy is back on the road for its next outing, traveling to Franklin Saturday for a 1 p.m. matchup.
