LEXINGTON, Ky. - Transylvania's women's tennis team tuned up for this weekend's Heartland Conference Championship Wednesday with a 5-1 Senior Day win over Franklin at the Pioneer Tennis Complex.
With the win in their regular season finale, the Pioneers completed a 9-1 regular season, 8-1 in HCAC play. That tied Rose-Hulman for the best record in the HCAC and gave them the No. 2 seed in the tournament, which gets underway at the West Indy Racquet Club on Saturday.
Transy will face the winner of the Franklin-Hanover match at 2 p.m. The semifinal winners will collide in the HCAC finals on Sunday at 10 a.m.
At stake is the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship, to be held next May.
Franklin finished its regular season at 5-6, 4-5 HCAC. It won the sixth and final spot in the tournament. Manchester and Anderson also qualified for the tournament.
Transy will try to reverse last year's HCAC tournament, which saw them lose to Rose-Hulman in the finals in a bid for a second straight NCAA Championship appearance. The 2011 season also saw head coach
Chuck Brown, in his 11th year, surpass 200 career wins with both the men's and women's programs.
