HANOVER, Ky. - Transylvania's
Kyle Newman and
Ethan Collins each scored a goal Tuesday, fueling the Pioneers to a 3-0 Heartland Conference men's soccer win over homestanding Hanover.
The Pioneers (8-4-3, 5-0-1) maintained their lead over Rose-Hulman in the HCAC. The Panthers are now 4-11, 1-5 HCAC.
Transy took a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute on an own goal that deflected off a Hanover player. Newman made it 2-0 at the 32-minute mark when he took a
Stu Hampson pass and connected from 15 yards out.
Collins got his team-best sixth goal at the 84:52 mark when he corraled a loss ball and scored from six yards out.
The Pioneers took a season-high 30 shots, eight on goal, compared to eight for the Panthers. Transy also had a 7-0 edge in corners.
Taylor Nossokoff and
Alex Schmitt shared the shutout in goal.
Transy is back in action on Saturday, hosting Franklin at 3:30 p.m. at Thomas Field. Senior Day will be celebrated for fourth-year players
