Kruse lifts Transy to HCAC win

Box Score TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Transylvania freshman Alyssa Kruse kept up her scoring binge with two more goals Saturday, lifting the Pioneers to a 2-1 win over Rose-Hulman in the Heartland Conference opener for both teams.

Transy, ranked No. 17 in the nation, is 7-1, 1-0 HCAC, while the Engineers are 3-5, 0-1 HCAC.

Kruse (Lexington, KY, Tates Creek) scored her eighth goal of the year in the fifth minute when she converted a pass from Elizabeth Schmitt (Ft. Mitchell, Ky., Notre Dame Acad.) and beat the keeper from 12 yards out.

That stood as the halftime score.

Transy made it 2-0 when Kruse scored her ninth goal when her 18-yard effort found the bottom right corner of the net in the 52nd minute. Rose-Hulman capped the scoring with a goal at the 75:58 mark when her shot from 25 yards out went off the keeper's hand and into the goal.

The Pioneers had a 15-5 edge in shots and keeper Kara Hansel (Florence, Ky., Notre Dame Acad.) made four saves.

Transy is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Wittenberg at 7 p.m. at Hall Field.
