Pioneer women overwhelm Point Park, 4-1

Box Score MARIETTA, Ohio - Transylvania outshot Point Park 20-4 Saturday and went on to a convincing 4-1 women's soccer win on the first day of the Marietta Invitational.

The Pioneers improved to 1-1 on the year while Point Park is 0-4.

Transy and Point Park battled to a 1-1 tie through the first 45 minutes before the Pioneers put the game away with three second-half scores.

Freshman Alyssa Kruse (Lexington, KY, Tates Creek) got her first collegiate goal at the 20-minute mark, but Point Park tied it just two minutes before intermission.

Kruse assisted on Amy Ghibaudy (Lexington, Ky., Lex. Catholic)'s goal just 90 seconds into the second half. Both would add second goals as the Pioneers pulled away. Kruse assisted on both of Ghilbaudy's second-half scores. The sophomore now has three goals on the year.

Keeper Kara Hansel had three saves for Transy, which also had an 8-1 edge in corners.

Transy resumes play Sunday, facing host Marietta at 2 p.m.
