LEXINGTON, Ky. - Transylvania struck for three first-half goals Saturday and went on to overwhelm Marietta 4-1 in men's soccer action at Thomas Field.
The Pioneers improved to 5-1-1 while the Pioneers of Marietta are 3-5.
Transy took the lead for good at the 8:28 mark on a golf by
Taylor Ballard, his first of the year, off an assist from
Eric Froschauer. It was 2-0 just 11 minutes later when Forschauer got his second score of the year and knocked it over the keeper.
The lead was 3-0 at halftime when
Luke Dehner connected after running down a long ball. It was also his first goal of the year.
Marietta tried to climb back into the contest 13 minutes into the second half on a score by Lucas Eick when he converted a ball off a defender. Transy capped the scoring when Froschauer scored again off a Darby Lennox pass in the 83rd minute.
Transy had 10 shots overall to three for Marietta and enjoyed an 8-3 margin in shots on goal.
Taylor Nossokoff and
Cody Waltrip split time in goal with Waltrip getting two saves.
Marietta had four corners to one for the Pioneers of Transy.
Transy returns to action on Wednesday, hosting Maryville at 4:30 p.m. They open Heartland Conference play next Saturday against Anderson at home at 4:30 p.m.
