INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. â€" Transylvania women's tennis ended their season at the Heartland Conference tournament on Saturday, falling 3-5 to the Anderson Ravens.
The Pioneers, seeded fourth in the HCAC tournament, faced Anderson in the first round of the tournament Saturday morning.
In doubles, the duo of El Dessouki and sophomore
Megan Dixon defeated No. 1 singles in a tight matchup, 9-7. Anderson's No. 2 and 3 seeded doubles overcame the Pioneers, 8-0 and 8-1, giving the Ravens a 2-1 lead early.
Transylvania saw greater success in the top two singles spots as freshman
Laila El Dessouki filled the shoes for No. 1 seed
Claire Mielcarek, defeating Anderson's Courtney Postmus, 6-1, 6-3. Senior
Victoria Haugli also returned from injury as the No. 2 seed, winning in her singles match in three sets, 6-4, 1-6, 6-1.
Up 3-2, the Pioneers began to slide, dropping both the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 seeds and closing out the first round of the tournament with a 3-5 loss to the Ravens.
The HCAC Women's Tennis Championship will feature Hanover and Rose-Hulman tomorrow, October 20 at the West Indy Raquet Club in Indianapolis.
The Pioneers finished the season with a record of 7-3, 6-2 in the Heartland Conference.
