Pioneers close out legacy at Thomas Field, drop 1-0 decision

Box Score LEXINGTON, Ky. - After 45 years, Transylvania men's soccer team walked off Thomas Field with heads held high for the last time following a 1-0 loss to Hanover College.

"It was a little more frustrating than usual, because this was our last game on Thomas Field," said Head Coach Brandon Bowman.

Hanover scored during first half of the game, but this was their only attempt on goal. The Pioneers played an aggressive game, taking three shots on goal to Hanover's one. Senior Eric Froschauer had two attempts on goal, and senior Conner Clark took one.

Transylvania fought tooth-and-nail, but with little offensive success. The Pioneers finished the game with intensity and strong defensive play, but were unable to mount a comeback.

Despite the loss, the Pioneers can look back on their time at Thomas Field with pride.

"We've had so many great memories; we've had so many conference titles, and conference tournament titles and NCAA tournament games and just many, many wins," said Coach Bowman. "It's just a shame we had to end our time on Thomas with a loss."

Although they are excited to move into the a new complex on West Fourth Street, which will host opening ceremonies on October 19, Thomas Field has felt like a home to Coach Bowman, who has been with the Pioneers for twelve years.

"We won't look at the negative there, we've got to look back and think of all the good things that happened on this field. And obviously there's so many more positives than negatives that come out from playing at Thomas," said Coach Bowman, "we're sad to move on, but we're excited about the new facility."

With three players injured in this game alone, the team will have to work with the roster and formation to prepare for next weekend.

"We have see who we have left, figure out our formation and who is going play where, and then kind of go from there," said Coach Bowman, "and then hopefully put together a strong strategy and lineup to play against Manchester."

Coach Bowman hopes to "right the ship" and continue to compete throughout conference season.  Transylvania (7-3-1) matches up against conference opponent Manchester on Saturday at 3 p.m.
