Box Score TERRA HAUTE, Ind.—The Transylvania University women's soccer team dropped their conference matchup against Rose-Hulman on Saturday, by a score of 2-1. It was the latest in a line of tough, one goal loses.
Rose-Hulman opened the scoring early in the match after Eliska Saiz netted a goal in the ninth minute. The game would remain at a score of 1-0 through the end of the first half and the early stages of the second until Madeline Romeo volleyed in a corner from the six-yard box at the 57:12 mark. Transylvania would score a goal in the 86th minute off the foot of Morgan Janes but it would prove to be too little, too late as the Rose-Hulman defense stood firm until the end of the match.
The game was closely contested throughout, as the Pioneers were able to rip off 10 shots and eight on target while the Engineers managed seven shots on goal on nine total shots. Each team also took four corner kicks in the game and Transy committed 14 fouls to Rose's 12. In the end, however, the Engineers were able to stave off Transylvania and hold on for the victory.
Transylvania has now lost eight matches in a row, including three straight games decided by one goal. The loss drops the Pioneers' record to 2-11 and 0-3 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play. Earlham and Defiance will each come to town this week as Transylvania continues its season.
