Box Score LEXINGTON, Ky. --- The Pioneers hosted visiting Rose-Hulman in HCAC women's soccer action on a beautiful fall day here at Pat Deacon Stadium. Both teams came into today's game looking to get back in the win column and solidify their positions in conference standings.
Transylvania University got on the board first in a physical first half on a goal score by Senior Erin Miller at 26:13 in. The crossing pass was perfectly placed by Sophomore Megan Wall to Miller put the Pioneers in the lead. The Pioneers would score again at 9:13 to take a two goal lead into halftime. Junior Charlotte Pruet found the upper right net on an assist by Maddie Sjogren on a centering pass in heavy Rose-Hulman traffic. The second half proved to be one of defense as both team put heavy pressure on the opposites attack plan neither allowing a goal in 45 mins of play. Pioneer Defenders Gabby Prevost and Abby Van Bussum anchored the sides in the victory.
Goalkeeper Morgan Potts kept the net closed stopping all five shots on goal from the Engineers in earning the shutout on a homecoming weekend for Transylvania University.
Coach Mike Fulton spoke about the win, "Today was a great win against a good team and we are proud of the effort that our players put forth. It gave us a confidence boost as we head into week 2 of conference play."
The Pioneers (3-6-2, HCAC 1-1-1) will travel to Earlham College on Tuesday, October 14 to take on the Bears in conference action. Match time is set for 3:30 p.m.
