Box Score LEXINGTON, Ky.—Despite a strong effort from the Pioneers, Sewanee escaped Pat Deacon Stadium with a 1-0 win Sunday over the homestanding Transylvania University women's soccer team.
The Pioneer offense continually attacked the Sewanee defense generating numerous shots. Megan Wall sent one off the crossbar early in the first half, while Morgan Janes followed with a header toward the net that sailed just high keeping the score even.
Goalkeeper Ally Barfield and the Pioneer defense were efficient limiting Sewanee's offensive possessions and keeping the Tigers out of the net.
As the first half was winding down, Sewanee got on the board as Shelby Meckstroth found the net at the 30:49 mark to put the Tigers up 1-0.
The Pioneers, however, did not deter from their attack. On the ensuing two Transy possessions, Lindsey Sizemore sent two shots toward Sewanee's Olivia Glascoe and the score remained tied at zero.
The Pioneers' offense was shifty penetrating the Tiger defense throughout the remainder of the contest. With less than 10 minutes to play, the Pioneers threatened once again as Janes' shot at the 82:49 mark was scooped up by Glascoe. Seconds later Erin Snyder sent another shot toward the net but was deflected by a Sewanee defender before the final minutes wound down.
The Pioneers travel to Rhodes College Sept. 18. Friday's match is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
