Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn.– The Transylvania Pioneers fought hard on the defensive side of the pitch, but still failed to find the back of the net, as they suffered a 1-0 loss at the hands of the Sewanee Tigers at Puett Field on Saturday afternoon.
While Transylvania failed to move the ball offensively or create any serious scoring opportunities, it was the Pioneers' defensive back line that helped to make the game a close one throughout the 90-minute session. Senior defender Nicole Dal Pozzo and junior defender Abby Van Bussum both played superbly on the defensive side of the ball, as they attempted to keep the Tigers from scoring.
The game was yet another episode of great play by senior goalkeeper Morgan Potts. While withstanding 12 Sewanee shots, Potts gave up only one goal, while recording four saves on the afternoon. Potts now holds second place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference with a .844 overall save pct.
Potts is also top five in total saves with 38, and Goals-Against-Average with 1.66 goals allowed per contest.
Going forward from today's loss, the Pioneers will look to focus on their attack as they move into the next portion of the schedule.
Next up, the Pioneers will travel to Crestview Hills, Ky. to face in-state rival Thomas More on Tuesday, Sept. 20. The game is set for 5 p.m. start from BB&T Field.
