Box Score Richmond, Ind. – The Transylvania women's soccer team jousted with the Earlham College Quakers to a 2-2 tie Wednesday afternoon at Matlack-Messer Stadium.
The result was the third draw of the season for the Pioneers, who moved to 5-9-3 overall, and 3-4-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play. Earlham moved to 2-5-1 in the conference standings and 6-10-1 overall.
The match featured a collection of momentum shifts, ties, and lead changes before the afternoon's eventual draw.
Earlham put the first digit on the scoreboard as the Quakers' Hailey Beel found an unattended ball in the box in the 19th minute to score for a 1-0 lead. Transylvania responded quickly as junior back Gabby Prevost took advantage of a deflected long ball ahead and fired it into the far side of the post to equalize the game at 1-1 in the 21st minute.
With 13 minutes left in the first half, the Pioneers drew a penalty kick opportunity after Earlham's goalkeeper collided with junior midfielder Noel Obata on the edge of the box. Senior back Abby Van Bussum fired a pinpoint PK shot to the left corner for a 2-1 Transylvania advantage.
Earlham answered back midway through the second half as Kelsey Moore scored on a cross to tie the game up at 2-2.
Both sides manifested spirited attacks throughout the rest of the afternoon but each team's respective backlines held firm through the end of regulation and into both overtime periods, yielding the match's final score.
Transylvania completes its 2017 season this Saturday, October 28, which marks Senior Day 2017 for six outgoing seniors. The Pioneers will host Bluffton University at 1:00 p.m. at Pat Deacon Stadium with Senior Day festivities to precede Saturday's match.
