Box Score Bluffton, Ohio – The Transylvania men's soccer team scored three unanswered goals to pick up a 3-2 victory over the Bluffton University Beavers at the Sears Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The win was the Pioneers' fifth straight and grows their record to 7-4-3 overall and 5-1-1 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, good for second place in the conference standings. The loss drops Bluffton's record to 2-14 overall and 1-6 in conference play.
There was little scoring early on in the game as the two teams endured a period of strong defensive play at both ends of the field.
The first punch came in the 38th minute when the Beavers scored a pair of back-to-back goals to take a commanding 2-0 lead over the Pioneers.
Transylvania responded just before the end of the half by way of a goal from freshman midfielder Tyler Dobbs, which cut the Beavers' lead in half.
The Pioneers found an equalizer in the 57th minute when junior midfielder Caswell Fuller sent a shot past the Beavers' goalie, leveling the score at 2-2.
Not satisfied with a draw, the Pioneers continued to relentlessly pressure the Bluffton defense and in the 62nd minute, junior midfielder Jason Murillo scored the go-ahead goal for the Pioneers, Murillo's first of the year.
Transylvania's defense continued to deny the Beavers' offense over the final thirty minutes of play, preserving the 3-2 victory.
The Pioneers will return to the pitch on Wednesday, October 24 when they travel to Franklin, Indiana for a matchup with the Franklin College Grizzlies. First touch between the Grizzlies and the Pioneers is set for 7:30 p.m. at Faught Stadium.
