Lexington, Ky. – A first-half offensive burst propelled the Transylvania women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over the Berea college Mountaineers at Pat Deacon Stadium on Monday night.

With the victory, Transylvania's record improves 5-2 on the season, while Berea falls to 4-1.

The Pioneers controlled the game offensively from the start, outshooting the Mountaineers 9-2 in the first half.

Just five minutes into the game freshman midfielder Quinn May gave Transylvania a 1-0 lead when she received a pass from fellow freshman Abby Baker and placed a shot over the Berea goalkeepers shoulder for her third goal of the year. The assist gives Baker a team-high eight points on the season.

In the 20^th minute, the Pioneers extended their lead to 2-0 as freshman forward Ashley Chindo drove the ball into the box and blasted a shot into the far corner of the net.

With a comfortable lead in hand, Transylvania head coach Luis Reis made use of his reserves throughout the second half, allowing his starting unit some extra rest.  The Pioneers responded by holding the Mountaineers scoreless down the stretch to preserve the 2-0 victory.

Freshman goalkeeper Morgan Patton started for the Pioneers and picked up the victory in goal as she recorded two saves and did not allow a Berea goal. Senior Ally Barfield entered the game at halftime and recorded four saves while preserving the Transylvania shutout in 45 minutes of relief work.

The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday, September 19 when they travel to Maryville, Tennessee for a 7:30 p.m. matchup with the Maryville College Scots at MC Soccer Field.
