Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania men's basketball team unleashed its offense on Friday night for a 101-75 win over the Earlham College Quakers at the Beck Center.
The Pioneers registered season bests in points and three-pointers made, fueled by an overwhelming 58-point outburst in the opening half.
Zach Larimore led the way with 24 points, six assists, and four rebounds, hitting on 8 of 14 shots from the floor and 4 of 6 shots from downtown.
Transylvania improved to 4-6 on the season and 4-1 against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponents while growing its season-high winning streak to four games. Earlham fell to 1-4 overall.
The Pioneers connected on 18 of 30 three-pointers in Friday's win, the most three-pointers in a game by Transylvania since January 21, 2017 against Rose-Hulman.
After trading baskets in the opening moments of the game, Transylvania went on a 15-3 run off back-to-back triples from Larimore to grab a 20-8 advantage six minutes into the ballgame. Aiden Pashley and Jack Patton next joined in on the three-point barrage as the Pioneers led 28-18 with 11 and a half minutes to go in the opening period.
Lucas Gentry hit his second threeball of the night with 8:58 to go in the first half as the Pioneer lead ballooned to 15. The Pioneers pushed the lead to 25 points with 3:03 left in the half by hitting seven of their first eight 3-point attempts.
Transylvania hit 9 of 12 three-pointers in the first half and shot 58 percent from the floor overall to craft a 58-37 halftime advantage.
The three-point offense and defense remained equally sharp into the second half for the home team as the Pioneers delivered another nine 3-pointers on 9 for 18 shooting while holding the Quakers to a 3 for 13 clip from outside in the final 20 minutes.
Lucas Gentry had his third straight double-double, tallying 18 points on 7 for 12 shooting and matched a career-high on the glass with 14 rebounds. The senior connected on 4 of 5 triples to contribute to the Pioneers' big night from Broadway.
Dominique Turner put forth another efficient night with 15 points and six rebounds on 5 for 7 shooting from the floor, 4 for 5 shooting from the charity stripe, and connected on his only three-point attempt of the night.
Transylvania assisted on 24 of its 36 made field goals and outrebounded Earlham 47 to 32.
The teams will rematch on Sunday, January 31 in Richmond, Indiana as Earlham hosts the Pioneers for a 3:00 p.m. tip-off.
