Transylvania men’s soccer answers the call in 2-1 win over Manchester

North Manchester, Ind. – The Transylvania men's soccer team collected its second consecutive victory in a 2-1 win over the Manchester University Spartans on Saturday afternoon at Good Field.

The win moves the Pioneers to 5-7-2 overall and 3-4-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play while the loss drops the Spartans to 6-9-1 overall and 3-5 in HCAC contests.

Looking to build on the positive momentum of the week, the Pioneers were determined to control the pace of play and strike early on the Spartans. Mitchell Crispin delivered in the 13th minute as the junior slotted his fourth goal of the year to earn a 1-0 lead for Transylvania.

The lead was short-lived as the hosts equalized in the 23rd minute, leaving the Pioneers once again searching for the go-ahead goal.

The first-half frenzy of goals was completed in the 32nd minute as Max Nusbacher fired the Pioneers in front, 2-1 to enter the halftime break.

The match continued into the evening as both sides struggled to create chances in the second half. The battle for midfield continued for the remainder of the game as the match ended in a 2-1 win for Transylvania.

The Pioneers and the Spartans were equally matched as the Pioneers held a slight advantage in shots at 9-8 and 4-2 in shots on goal.

The Pioneers will travel to Franklin, Indiana to take on the Franklin College Grizzlies in their final game of the regular season on Wednesday, October 27. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Faught Stadium.
