Transylvania women’s tennis edged by Millikin in Illinois

Decatur, Ill. – The Transylvania women's tennis team wrapped up its trip to Illinois with a 5-4 loss to the Millikin University Big Blue at the Fairview Park Tennis Complex on Sunday afternoon.

The Pioneers opened the day with a 2-1 lead after doubles play thanks to 8-1 wins by Porsche Robinson and Jessica Burton, and Alyssa Igyarto and Grace Gardner in the No. 1 and No. 2 matches, respectively.

Robinson's strong play continued into singles action where the junior picked up a hard-fought 7-5, 6-3 win over Milikin's Nikol Obradovic in the No. 1 matchup. Burton added to the Pioneers' lead with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles.

Trailing 4-1, the Big Blue responded with four-straight singles victories, allowing Milikin to escape with the 5-4 win.

"The team fought to the very end of a very long weekend and came up just a bit short against a good Millikin team," commented Transylvania coach Bill Carey. "Our doubles play was especially solid all weekend and I am thrilled at the way we have started this season."

Up next, the Pioneers will open conference play with a road matchup against the Hanover College Panthers on March 28. The match is set for a 4:00 p.m. start at the Zeddies Tennis Center.
