Transylvania men's lacrosse earns key win at Rhodes College on late winner from Hubbs

Memphis, Tenn. – The Transylvania men's lacrosse team recorded another first in program history on Sunday with a thrilling 12-11 victory over the Rhodes College Lynx at Mason Field on Sunday afternoon.

Dalton Hubbs and Andrew Hamill each recorded hat tricks, and the Pioneers picked up their first victory ever against the Lynx to augment their record to 2-1 for the 2021 season. The Lynx fell to 0-1 overall.

After falling behind early in the first quarter, the Pioneers leveled the score at 2-2 with goals from Hubbs and Seiver Utsey.

In the second quarter, Hubbs and Quinn Fox each scored to give Transylvania its first lead of the day. After two straight goals by the Lynx, Hubbs delved an equalizer with just seconds remaining in the first half for a 5-5 score at the break.

The Lynx took control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring the Pioneers 5-2 to forge a 10-7 lead over Transylvania.

With the game's outcome hanging in the balance, the Pioneers responded with an explosive fourth quarter performance. Trailing Rhodes 11-10 with four and a half minutes left in regulation, Trenton Sneed delivered his second scoring strike of the day to level the scoreboard.

Less than a minute later, Hubbs scored his third and final goal of the day to deliver Transylvania the 12-11 victory over the Lynx.

Transylvania goalkeeper Michael Webb was brilliant in the net on Sunday. The senior tallied a season-high 16 saves while allowing just 11 goals in the victory.

The Pioneers will return to action on Wednesday, March 10, with a matchup against the DePauw University Tigers. Opening face-off between the Pioneers and the Tigers is set for 6:00 p.m. at Reavis Stadium in Greencastle, Indiana.
